Getting Back to Basics

A Personal Journey Toward Lasting Change

Over the past couple of years, I've gradually found myself moving away from some of the habits that once helped me feel my best.

Somewhere along the way, I've gained around 20 pounds. It didn't happen overnight, and despite several attempts to reverse it, losing that weight again has proved more challenging than I expected.

I've successfully lost weight before. I know what works for me. But knowing what to do and consistently doing it are two very different things.

And lately, I've been thinking that perhaps it's time to approach things differently.

What if the answer isn't another new plan, but simply getting back to basics?

Behind the Photographs

I love traveling, discovering restaurants, exploring new places and making memories. Those experiences are a big part of what inspired Beach to Desert™.

But photographs don't always tell the whole story.

Over the past couple of years, I've continued to travel, work and enjoy new experiences, while sometimes feeling far less comfortable and confident than those photographs might suggest.

There have been moments when my weight has affected how fully I've enjoyed experiences I had been looking forward to.

That's difficult to acknowledge, particularly when I'm someone who believes so strongly in making the most of life.

But it's also one of the reasons I'm ready for change.

Still Learning, Still Growing

At 65, I'm still working, learning, developing projects and exploring new possibilities.

I don't believe personal growth has an age limit.

And now I want to give some of that same energy and attention to myself.

I want to rediscover the habits that helped me before, improve my fitness, feel stronger and become more comfortable in my own skin.

Not through another fleeting effort, but through changes I can genuinely maintain.

I'm beginning to understand that lasting transformation isn't necessarily about doing everything perfectly.

Sometimes it's about returning to a few simple habits and practicing them consistently.

Living Along the Way

One of the guiding ideas behind Beach to Desert™ is that we shouldn't have to wait until we've achieved a goal before allowing ourselves to enjoy life.

I still believe that.

But I'm also learning that it's possible to be out there living your life while privately struggling with how you feel.

I don't want to pretend otherwise.

My goal isn't to give up the restaurants, vacations, celebrations and everyday pleasures I enjoy.

It's to find a healthier balance that allows me to experience those moments with greater confidence and enjoyment.

I want to feel as good living those experiences as they sometimes look in the photographs.

A Lasting Transformation

So this is where I'm beginning.

Getting back to basics. Making more intentional choices. Moving more. Looking after myself.

There will be successes, setbacks and lessons along the way.

I'm not setting out to document a perfect transformation or offer anyone a formula for success.

I'm simply sharing a little more of my own story as I work toward lasting change.

Because Beach to Desert™ isn't just about the places we visit or the photographs we take.

It's also about the lives we're creating, the things we're learning and having the courage to make changes when something no longer feels right.

Still learning. Still growing. Ready for change.

One day at a time.
