Two Seasons
I’ve always been fascinated by how differently we can feel in different places.
A change of scenery, a different rhythm, even a few days away from our usual surroundings can bring something unexpected to the surface.
For me, two places came to represent that particularly clearly.
Desert
Harsh. Beautiful. Familiar.
For part of the year, the desert can be intensely hot and unforgiving. Then the seasons change, bringing months of beautiful weather and an entirely different rhythm.
Perhaps that contrast is part of its appeal.
It represents resilience, endurance and the ability to keep growing through less comfortable seasons.
Over time, it has also become home.
Ocean
Expansive. Energizing. Inspiring.
The ocean awakens something different — curiosity, creativity and possibility.
It reminds me to look outward, explore, and imagine what might come next.
For a while, I thought these different responses meant I preferred one version of life over another.
Reflection helped me see something different.
I didn’t need to choose.
Both had something to offer.
One reminded me to become still enough to notice.
The other reminded me to remain open enough to explore.
And somewhere between the two, the idea of Beach to Desert™ began to make even more sense.
Different places. Different rhythms. Different lessons.
Sometimes reflection isn’t about changing anything at all.
Sometimes it simply helps us notice what different parts of our lives are already teaching us.
The season changes. The learning continues.
